Klim Krios Pro

Klim Krios Pro Review

What Customers Think

  • Light and Comfortable
  • You Need To Go A Size Up
  • The Transition Shield is Awesome

What is the Klim Krios Pro Helmet?

The Klim Krios Pro Helmet is a high-end adventure touring helmet designed to provide maximum protection and comfort for motorcycle riders. It features a lightweight carbon fiber shell, a Pinlock-ready face shield, and a dual-density EPS liner.

Features of the Klim Krios Pro Helmet:

  • Carbon fiber shell: The carbon fiber shell of the Klim Krios Pro Helmet is not only lightweight but also incredibly strong and durable.
  • Pinlock-ready face shield: The face shield of the helmet is Pinlock-ready, which means it can be fitted with a Pinlock lens to prevent fogging.
  • Dual-density EPS liner: The helmet’s liner is made of a dual-density EPS material that provides excellent impact absorption.
  • Adjustable visor: The visor of the Klim Krios Pro Helmet is adjustable, allowing you to customize the amount of airflow into the helmet.
  • Removable and washable liner: The helmet’s liner is removable and washable, making it easy to keep the helmet clean and fresh.
  • Wind tunnel tested: The Klim Krios Pro Helmet has been wind tunnel tested to ensure that it provides excellent aerodynamics and is the best adventure touring helmet for wind noise.

Advantages of the Klim Krios Pro Helmet:

  • Lightweight and comfortable: The carbon fiber shell of the Klim Krios Pro Helmet makes it one of the lightest helmets on the market. This means you can wear it for long periods without experiencing discomfort.
  • Excellent protection: The helmet’s dual-density EPS liner provides excellent impact absorption, ensuring that your head is well protected in the event of an accident.
  • Good ventilation: The helmet has an adjustable visor, and chin vents provide good ventilation, allowing air to flow into the helmet and keep you cool.
  • Quiet: The wind tunnel testing of the Klim Krios Pro Helmet has resulted in a relatively quiet helmet, even at high speeds.

Disadvantages of the Klim Krios Pro Helmet:

  • Expensive: The Klim Krios Pro Helmet is one of the most expensive helmets on the market, which may put it out of reach for some riders.
  • Limited color options: The helmet is only available in a limited range of colors, which may not be to everyone’s taste.

Two Things I Had An Issue With

  1. I bought a medium-sized helmet, but it caused discomfort after wearing it for 5-10 minutes as it was too snug. So, I decided to try a larger size and got a large one. However, it turned out to be too big for me, and the movement inside it was funny. Additionally, the helmet’s sizing seems inconsistent, as someone wearing a 2XL has the same shell size as a person on the lower end of a large.
  2. The shield mechanism of Klim’s helmet appears to be poorly designed. It is held in place by two small, intricate screws that attach it to the helmet shell. As a result, the mechanism can easily become misaligned, causing the shield not to close completely. This is unacceptable for a high-end helmet, and there is no excuse for such a flaw in its design.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Klim Krios Pro Helmet is an excellent choice for motorcycle riders who are looking for a high-end adventure touring helmet that provides maximum protection, comfort, and excellent ventilation.

Although it may be on the expensive side, its lightweight carbon fiber shell, Pinlock-ready face shield, and dual-density EPS liner make it worth the investment for riders who prioritize safety and comfort on their journeys.

When considering purchasing the Klim Krios Pro Helmet, it’s essential to keep in mind that it is only available in a limited range of colors. However, the helmet’s quality and performance make up for the lack of color options.

Furthermore, the helmet’s removable and washable liner makes it easy to keep the helmet clean and fresh. This feature ensures that the helmet maintains its quality and performance over time.

Can you get tinnitus from riding a motorcycle?

Riding a motorcycle without proper ear protection can lead to tinnitus, a condition characterized by continuous high-pitched ringing in the ears.

The loud noises experienced when riding a motorcycle can damage the hair cells in the inner ear, causing tinnitus. Motorcycle riders must use earplugs to reduce the risk of developing tinnitus and prevent irreversible hearing loss.

Do motorcycle helmets protect hearing?

Motorcycle helmets do not protect your hearing as they are primarily designed to protect against head injuries.

Wind noise inside a helmet can reach levels above 85 dB, which can lead to hearing loss. To safeguard your ears while riding, it is recommended to wear earplugs designed for motorcyclists, such as Alpine Moto-Safe.

These earplugs offer noise reduction of up to 20 dB and are comfortable for long rides. Despite the common misconception that helmets offer adequate hearing protection, they only reduce noise by around 7 to 10 dB.

To prevent hearing damage, it is crucial to use earplugs, avoid high speeds that increase wind noise, and consider earmuffs that can be switched on and off inside the helmet.

Factors that Cause Wind Noise in Motorcycle Helmets

Several factors can cause wind noise in motorcycle helmets, including the type of motorcycle, wind speed, the screen on the motorcycle, and helmet fit.

Type Of Motorcycle

The type of motorcycle plays a significant role in wind noise generation. Different types of motorcycles produce different amounts of wind noise due to their design and riding position.

For instance, sports bikes produce more wind noise due to their aggressive riding position, whereas touring bikes with fairings produce less wind noise due to their aerodynamic design.

Wind Speed

Wind speed is another factor that causes wind noise in motorcycle helmets. The higher the wind speed, the louder the wind noise. When a motorcycle is moving at high speeds, the air pressure on the helmet increases, leading to turbulence and noise.

Motorcycle Screen

The screen on the motorcycle also contributes to wind noise. The screen can cause turbulence, leading to increased wind noise. The size and shape of the screen also affect the wind noise generated.

How Your Helmet Fits

Helmet fit is crucial in preventing wind noise. A poorly fitting helmet can cause wind noise by allowing air to enter the helmet, leading to turbulence and noise. A properly fitting helmet will reduce the amount of air entering the helmet and therefore minimize wind noise.

Ways to Solve Wind Noise

Wind Screen Hight

One of the most common ways to solve wind noise in motorcycle helmets is by adjusting the screen height.

A motorcycle screen that is too low can cause turbulent airflow, leading to excessive wind noise. By raising the screen height, the airflow can be directed over the rider’s head and helmet, resulting in a more aerodynamic ride and reduced wind noise.

It is essential to find the right screen height for your motorcycle, as it can vary depending on the type of motorcycle and the rider’s height.

Aeroacoustic Helmets

Another effective way to solve wind noise in motorcycle helmets is by choosing an aero-acoustically designed helmet.

Aero acoustically designed helmets are specifically designed to reduce wind noise by directing airflow away from the helmet’s surface.

These helmets have a more streamlined shape, with features such as an aerodynamic shell and noise-reducing padding.

There are different types of aeroacoustic helmets available in the market. One of them is the flip-up helmet, which is designed to be quieter than full-face helmets.

Flip-up helmets are a popular choice for touring riders who require a more versatile helmet that allows them to easily communicate with others, as well as have quick access to their face.

An example of a flip-up helmet is the C4 Pro, which features an acoustic collar that ensures a tight seal around the neck, preventing wind from entering the helmet and reducing noise levels.

When selecting a helmet, it is important to choose one that fits well and has a snug fit, as this can also help reduce wind noise.

Some helmets even come with built-in noise-canceling technology, which can further reduce wind noise and make for a quieter ride.

Visor Seal

Another factor that affects wind noise in motorcycle helmets is the visor seal. If the seal is not well-maintained, air can easily seep in and cause noise.

Therefore, it is important to ensure that the visor seal is in good condition and seals the helmet properly. A simple way to test this is by running your fingers along the seal to feel for any gaps. If there are gaps, try adjusting the visor or replacing the seal altogether.

Built In Solvers

Additionally, some helmets come with built-in solvers to combat wind noise. Manufacturers have created helmets with unique designs that promote smooth airflow and minimize turbulence.

These features are designed to reduce the noise produced by the wind hitting the helmet. If you’re in the market for a new helmet, consider looking for a model with these built-in solvers to help reduce wind noise.

How To Make A Motorcycle Helmey Quiter?

If you’re wondering how to make a motorcycle helmet quieter, there are a few strategies you can try. Firstly, investing in a helmet with noise-canceling technology is a great step towards reducing unwanted sound.

The best noise-canceling motorcycle helmets are equipped with advanced features that actively minimize external noise, ensuring you have a quieter ride.

Additionally, selecting a helmet with superior padding and insulation can significantly reduce noise levels. The quieter the motorcycle helmet, the more enjoyable and comfortable your ride will be. So, it’s worth considering the noise-canceling capabilities when choosing your next helmet.

In conclusion, the best noise-canceling motorcycle helmet is a must-have for riders seeking a quieter and more peaceful experience on the road.

By investing in the quietest motorcycle helmet available and implementing strategies to make it even quieter, you’ll be able to enjoy a serene ride free from unnecessary noise distractions. So, gear up with the best noise-canceling helmet and experience the bliss of a quieter motorcycle journey.
