Arai Contour-X
My History with Arai
Before we get started, I want to let you know that I am a fan of Arai helmets. I’ve been using Arai helmets for over 15 years, starting with the Quantum 2.
I’ve since used the RX-Q, VX Pro 4, XD4, and Corsair X helmets. I’ve found that Arai helmets fit me well and offer high quality. While they are not cheap, I believe they are worth the investment.
Construction
The Arai Contour X features the Peripheral Belted E-Complex Laminate Construction (PBE CLC) that is designed to be lighter and stronger than previous Arai helmets.
The helmet is DOT and Snell 2020 rated and features four intakes and three exhaust vents for ventilation.
It is an intermediate oval shape that will work for the majority of riders, but Arai offers different shapes for different head sizes and shapes.
The Contour X shares a comfortable head shape with the Corsair X, which is Arai’s premium race helmet.
The helmet also has 5mm foam pads that can be removed from the side of the head for those who want a more round fit. Some adjustments can be made to the overall inside liner to fine-tune the fit.

Ventilation
The Arai Contour X has new smaller and sleeker vents than previous Arai helmets. The chin bar vent has been redesigned, and there are four intakes and three exhaust vents.
While the venting system flows a tremendous amount of air, there is a small gap at the bottom of the vent when it is closed that may let in some air in cold weather.
The back of the helmet features an active exhaust vent and two passive vents.
Face Shield
The face shield of the Arai Contour X is the same as what we’ve seen in previous Arai helmets.
The VAS-V face shield is Pinlock-ready, and a Pinlock is included in the box.
The latch system is from the FM world and features a lever that locks the face shield into place.
Inside Liner
The Arai Contour X features a permanent chin curtain and an emergency removal system for the cheek pads. The cheek pads push into place without snaps or magnets.
The liner uses Arai’s FCS system for a comfortable fit, and the liner is adjustable from the front and back to fine-tune the fit. Extra foam pads can also be added or removed for a more customized fit.
The EPS liner is color-coded to provide different levels of impact protection in different areas of the head.
Aesthetic
From an aesthetic standpoint, the Arai Contour X has a large duckbill on the back that I like, but some people may not. However, others may love the look of the helmet.
The duckbill is there for a reason, as it helps cut down on wind resistance and drag flow.
